New Space Allocation Changes for
Church Office and Day School

Trinity is known for it's welcoming attitude, but there's one thing that's missing right now: a warm and welcoming office space. We are a growing and increasingly vibrant congregation that needs an appropriate office to facilitate and project our Trinity spirit.

Since the conversion of the former office building back to a Rectory, we have been carefully considering many options for our church office space needs. Being deeply committed to the ministry of our Trinity Day School (TDS) and after considering many factors, the Rector, Wardens, and Vestry have decided that the best solution is the reallocation of one of the Trinity Day School classrooms to serve as the Church Office.

A few notable aspects to this change:

  • No teacher's job was lost or negatively impacted with reduced hours.
  • A strategy is in place to sustain the current TDS offerings with 5 classrooms instead of 6… we are grateful for this work!
  • We will actually have more students for the upcoming school year than we had this year… there is the possibility of a waiting list for some offerings as we get closer to the 2025/26 school year.
  • This change will allow us to increase security for our Day School children and staff.
  • The Library will be shared office space with the relocation of the copier from the Chapel sacristy and a conference table.
  • The work will begin after the close of this school year which is June 11th.

You will begin to notice some work in the vestibule between McArthur Hall and the exterior door towards the Chapel parking lot; the major remodeling will take place this summer after the end of the school year in mid-June.

If you have any questions, please contact any member of Vestry. An early note of appreciation to Frank Tortorello for his work and attention to this project.

Thank you for your patience as we move forward with this plan… The transformation should be completed by the end of summer.

Father Rob+ with Kevin and Lorri, on behalf of Trinity’s Vestry

June 14th
Trinity Spring Cleanup
(yes, technically it's still spring)

It’s time to de-clutter, purge and organize our shared spaces! Saturday June 14th, the Vestry will be hosting a Spring Clean-up Day. We will be starting at 9am and welcome any volunteers for as much or little time as you can spare. There will be targeted projects and general cleaning needs. A dumpster will be onsite, and we are excited to fill it up!!!

Help us help you! If you lead, or are an active participant in, a ministry at Trinity and have storage needs… or sorting and purging needs… please be in touch with Kevin or Lorri. We can coordinate volunteers to help you. We can also ensure active materials are not thrown out by accident.

We look forward to a great Saturday of fellowship and organizing our shared spaces!

Sunday, June 8th
Pentecost
Fire in our Soul

This Sunday is Pentecost, one of the three high feasts of the church, along with Christmas and Easter. Pentecost is the celebration of the event depicted in the book of Acts (2:1-12) when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples of Christ and empowered them to continue Jesus’ ministry in the world. This shifts Jesus’ ministry from a singular effort to a global movement, and is considered by many as the start of the Church.

The name Pentecost comes from the event taking place fifty days after Easter, and since Easter is a moveable feast day, Pentecost also moves in conjunction from one Sunday to another Sunday each year. This Sunday also begins the broader liturgical season of Pentecost, which will last throughout the summer and fall until the first Sunday of Advent.

This longest of liturgical seasons focuses on the mission of the Church, and the readings will often have a more instructional quality to them. We will also take a long trip through the history of the kings of Israel in the passages from the Hebrew Bible.

We often observe Pentecost by wearing red to church, and you’ll see red stoles and altar hangings that day. This is to remind us that the Holy Spirit burns in each one of us, blessing us with our gifts to build up the church, change the world, and spread the Gospel of Jesus’ love.

Big Changes on the Horizon for June

Because of new laws passed by Philadelphia City Council, it will no longer be possible for us to distribute food and help on the street without having a physical footprint in Philadelphia. As a result, in July, we will begin working with an organization called the Sunshine House located on Kensington Avenue. We are looking forward to discovering new opportunities in our ministry in Kensington and are excited about updating you after our July collaboration.

The dates for the July sandwich making will be Friday, July 18 at 2 p.m. in the Trinity Kitchen. In August, we will be assembling lunches on THURSDAY, August 14th at 2 p.m.

Financial donations can be made to the church, either by check or online at trinitysolebury.org/donate Please put Kensington in the memo line.

Baby It's Warm Inside
and we aim to keep it that way next winter!

Since October, the property committee has been diligently working step by step to eliminate the multiple "no-heat" situations we had this past heating season. It's been a long process, first trying to exhaust any possibilities of fixes and updates to our existing system. But the strange reality is that today there are very few mechanical contractors that understand industrial oil burners like ours. And the few that are left had no definite ideas about what to fix. There were many possibilities of both problems and remedies, but in the end, no one could say definitively "this" or "that" is the fix that will guarantee the 100% uptime that we should have with two boilers.

As a result, we started exploring moving to propane. Because of the cleanliness of propane, it's flexibility and it's plentiful supply, trained propane technicians are abundant. Propane requires no pumps (since it works under it's own pressure), no fuel return lines, has no possiblity of ground contamination (if there was a spill, it would simply evaporate into the air), and has no problems with water condensation getting into the fuel tank.

Keeping in mind that our building and it's systems are now 25 years old, we have gotten a reasonable length of service from our existing oil burners. The boilers themselves will not be changed, but will be thoroughly cleaned.

We have interviewed at least 5 providers for the propane conversion, and we are close to making our final selection before making a recommendation to the vestry for final approval to move forward. Over the summer you may see activity as the new propane tanks are installed, and as the old oil tank is de-commissioned. We plan to have the new system in place by September 1st.

If you have any questions, anyone on the property committee will be happy to answer them.

Introducing Our Newest Members
Have You Met Frank Levy

Decorating elf cookies for the Cookie Bake, preparing an appetizer, side dish or dessert for the monthly Peace Meal project, assisting or substituting for John Shields at the front desk for all of the Trinity Friends of Music concerts and whipping up something festive for the Easter Vigil and concert receptions over the years prompted Frank to say yes to membership in a church community with so many outreach ministries.

A recently retired instructor of English composition at Rider University, Bucks and Philadelphia Community Colleges and - believe it or not - WaWa Corporation, Frank grew up on the Main Line and was in one of the first families to join Temple Adath Israel. While in high school at Lower Merion, he studied religion and history for three years post bar mitzvah at the Conservative synagogue under the tutelage of founding Rabbi, Martin Berkowitz. Books, recordings of classical music and all three children practicing piano filled the Levy home with stimulation. Frank earned his English degree from Long Island University and some decades later earned a master's in education at Temple University.

Frank worked for many years in the local antiques business and, artist that he is, does customized house portraits in pen and ink in the pointillism style. Over the years he has done several for Trinity members and he is currently working on one for the owners of the Fox & Hound B & B in New Hope.

Frank is an avid reader and a charter member of a local book club started by Lisa Landley. For ten years he has been in the Play Reader's Group convened by Linda Kenyon. He became friends with many Trinity members through these pursuits.

In the wider community he volunteers on projects with the New Hope-Solebury library and has been a mainstay with the Bucks County Choral Society for nineteen years; supervising the front of house at concert venues, serving on the Gala committees and hosting fund raising events at various points in time.

Frank's chief pet peeve is being micro-managed. It is also fair to say that the current rigors of air travel and ever shrinking seat space have lessened Frank's penchant for overseas travel. This summer will find him staying close to home with the occasional foray to Cape May during the week - never on weekends! Frank and his husband, Christopher Whitney, make their home "down Sugan hill" in Wilshire Hunt.

This is the first profile in a series of the new members we welcomed back on May 4th. The desire is to introduce our new members more fully to the congregation: their backgrounds, histories and what has brought them to Trinity. As a new member myself, I agreed to work with the New Member Committee and develop these little profiles. I thought it prudent to take a first stab at this by profiling someone I know well, my own husband: Frank Levy.

The Joy of Baptism

Trinity Church celebrates the baptism of Leo, Allison, and Nora, who were welcomed into the family of Christ on Wednesday evening, in a small private service as requested by the families.

We all know that, while carrying an important message, Baptism is a joyous moment - just check out the photo to the right and you'll see!

All three are children of Trinity Day School staff. If you happen to see them on Sunday, make sure to say hello!

In Requiem
Ashby Carmichael Saunders
February 6, 1932 - May 26, 2025
Memorial Service June 21st 1:00 p.m.

On May 26, our beloved Ashby Saunders died peacefully in his sleep.

We probably mostly associate Ashby the marvelous sculptures he created while he was largely blind, or with his welcoming personality that immediately warmed your heart. But the story behind his sculptures was the most amazing part.

Ashby began his professional career in advertising as a copywriter before transitioning to a life-long career in real estate in Bucks County. He retired from real estate only when vision impairment from Retinitis Pigmentosa, a condition diagnosed during his teenage years, made it impossible for him to continue working. It was then that his career as a sculptor matured, something that had it's seeds in playing with clay as a child to stay quiet in church.

His pieces have an uncanny ability to resonate with viewers. Capturing the quintessential joy of a once-forgotten moment in time, Ashby’s work consistently knocks the ball out of the park. His series of bronze baseball figures were exhibited at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. His life-size sculpture of “Sack Race” is on permanent display at Doylestown’s Central Park and a memorial honoring service workers of Doylestown can be seen at Triangle Park, Doylestown. Ashby exhibited his works in numerous art shows and sold his pieces internationally.

Ashby had a deep passion for music and singing. From childhood choir, college a capella groups, to church music, his beautiful tenor voice was a mainstay in the choir for over sixty years.

Born to Charles Baskerville Saunders and Lucy Carmichael Saunders, Ashby was raised in Southborough, Massachusetts. He attended St. Marks School in Southborough where his father taught math and coached baseball, and where Ashby developed his love of baseball. He graduated from Hampton-Sydney College in Virginia where he met his beloved wife of 66 years, Ginnie. They moved to Boston where Ashby received his masters in Public Relations from Boston University. After starting their family in Boston, a job with the American Cancer Society brought them to Bucks County in 1960. They quickly became parishioners at Trinity Solebury, where Ashby served on the vestry for many years including two terms as Rector’s Warden.

Ashby is survived by Spencer and Amy Saunders of New Hope, Elizabeth Saunders of Ocean Grove, New Jersey, and Susannah and David Roberts of Doylestown, and four grandchildren: Kyle and Christian Roberts, and Aubrey and Lila Saunders. Ashby will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A service will be held at Trinity on Saturday, June 21 at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Music at Trinity ( trinitysolebury.org/donate for online donations). Please note “In memory of Ashby Saunders, for Friends of Music” in the memo field.

Healing Prayers the First Sunday of Every Month

On the first Sunday of each month, healing prayers are available at both of Trinity's services during Communion. Prayer requests can be for oneself, a friend or family member, or a local, regional, national or international issue. Individuals of all ages are welcome and encouraged to come to the healing stations.

Share Your Prayer Concerns
Is something or someone on your mind as you arrive at church?

Each Sunday there is a sheet on the entryway table in the narthex where parishioners, visitors, and other church attendees can write their prayer requests for that Sunday. The page will include options for those requiring healing, special intentions, or the deceased. Those names will be included for that Sunday and the Sunday following, unless requested otherwise.

If you would like to have the names added to the long-term prayer list, please visit trinitysolebury.org/prayerlist or contact the church office.

Centering Prayer at Trinity Every Tuesday Morning
Be still and know that I am God - Psalm 46:10

Centering Prayer has been an active ministry at Trinity since the late 1990's. We practice Centering Prayer in the Chapel weekly on Tuesday mornings from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and all are welcome. Come whenever you can.

Centering Prayer is a type of Christian contemplation that provides an opportunity to sit quietly in God’s presence, in stillness for greater awareness of God in our busy daily lives. We intentionally put aside all thoughts of the past and of the future, being aware only of "now".

When we meet we remember those in need. We practice 20 minutes of silent meditation. We send cards to those in our prayers.

One technique of Centering Prayer employs a sacred word that we each choose on our own. Then we silently recall it to return to God’s presence when we are distracted by thoughts, feelings, and images. In Centering Prayer we believe that the beginning and the end of prayer is learning how to be still before God. Thoughts are the inevitable and normal part of Centering Prayer and by returning to our sacred word we are expressing our "intention to consent to God's presence and action within" (Thomas Keating)

Consider coming to Centering Prayer on Tuesdays. It is a gentle retreat, if only for 20 minutes, from our busy daily lives.
